Rock n' Roll Must Be Out of Time
8.4.12
There's no dirt or scandalous detail as to why I chose to move away from radio. The priorities in my world have changed significantly in the last 9 months and I am excited to forge through in a new direction. As that cliche saying goes, something something something...close doors to open new ones, right?
I have mixed emotions in ending this chapter, as the discovery of music, new and old has brought me great joy in sharing it all unbiasedly with you. I will miss the late night On-Air booth phone calls of stories of bands, new music suggestions, band interviews, guest DJ's and the guy who lived in his mom's basement, breathing into the receiver late at night (you too). I had some great interactions with people all over the World who downloaded the Podcasts on iTunes and sent emails, tweets and facebook messages. I was happy to see I had engaged so many of you inside and outside Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. Sadly, it's time to move on and pass the microphone and console onto new talent.
This final radio blog entry is a thank-you to everyone who supported the programming on Rock n' Roll Must Be DESTROYED!!!, Hit and Run Radio and CJSR in general. There are countless of volunteers and FACRA Board members making great things happen for community radio in Edmonton and with the internet, CJSR is heard all over the world at the click of a button. I urge you to continue supporting independent media wherever you call home.
So to sum it all up, and likely how I would have ended the last aired show, I'll take us out with the Rolling Stones.
~Ciao!

On Sabbatical
6.12.11
Rock n' Roll Must Be DESTROYED!!! Is temporarily off the air until about late February.
You can still access the podcasts from this site OR off iTunes. Thanks for understanding and I hope to back with tons more goodies after this unpaid sabbatical of sorts. Well, it's not like I was getting paid to begin with, so suck it up!

Well this is embarassing

See, that's the problem with community funded radio. It's mostly run be vegans sensitive to animal labour. So until that dispute is resolved (or I find another means of accessing the stations FTP server), I guess you have to listen via analog radio....or the CJSR listener App on your iPhone....or the internet.
You have options! I have to wait for vegans to make a decision!

July 27, 2011 Playlist, A Tribute to YOU!
5.8.11
I have to remember sometimes that I live in a great time and place of wonder and opportunity. I also have to remember that I am not the only one out there living it and that one day I may not have as many horse shoes as I do now. I also have to remember that everything is cyclical and I'm on the upswing of that cycle and so here we find ourselves. Connoisseurs of music, lovers of rock n' roll, aficionados of the hip sway, I am glad for you.
Thanks for tuning in, near and far. Thanks for all the kind words and encouragement. This little DJ feels overly whelmed and I'm happy to do the Night Owl, every Wednesday nights, just for you.

| Hang Loose: Mark, Joe and Dave |
Hang Loose will be playing a Solidarity Rock benefit at the Wunderbar in Edmonton on August 5th with the Frolics, Bonspeil and two other bands. Should be a great time. I encourage you to come out to the show and check them all out. Truly some of my favorite bands, doing the thing they love best and it really shows...Awww. Hopefuly, I can have more of these guest DJ spots in the future with some of my awesome rock n' roll pals, keeping Garage rock alive in these here Prairies.
I had Dave and Joe hosting the show with me and they played a ton of my favorites. Not to mention these guys were my compadres at Sled Island...after- after party you say?

| Wild Flag, at the Legion, Calgary |
This years festival was a huge throw back to Garage Rock. Truthfully I hate throwing around the term 'Garage' but I'd rather just toss that around the the numerous derivative forms that just make me sound like a music jerk. All in all a fantastic festival.
Photo to the left is Wild Flag. Fronted by Carrie Brownstein(Sleater Kinney, Excuse 17), Mary Timony (Helium, Autoclave), Janet Weiss (Sleater Kinney, Quasi, Stephen Malkmus and the Jicks) and Rebecca Cole. Wild Flag will be releasing their debut album on September 13, 2011 on Merge Records. Watch for it. After seeing this performance, I guarantee this album will blow minds...and ear drums. Hello 90's, I missed you....
Bands I think you should follow this year? There are tons but the ones I am completely enamoured with:
Bare Wires
Demon's Claws
Indian Wars
Wild Flag
Check the playlist below. I think I also did a little too much chatty chatty this episode. This 30+++ year old felt like a dang teenager again. Enjoy!
